The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005)

Here, some people say that I only review good movies and don't barely ever review movies negatively. That's how I roll. And, to carry on the tradition, this movie is SO AWESOME! I saw it about two years ago when I played Edmund in a kid's play of the film, but I now realize that that was not enough. This film has heart, suspense, and so much action it pushes the meaning of the words PG. (or it that just one word?) Anyway, this film has a very good spiritual message, enough fighting and action for the kids, but not too much for the adults. This is a perfect family film, and if you haven't seen it, it's worth the five bucks to rent it from the video store. If you have seen it, however...it's still worth the five bucks to rent it from the video store. so head down there, grab some Twizzlers while you're at it, and watch Narnia.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

They just don't make movies this funny anymore. And there are pretty much no good spoofs now-a-days. But, when you go back, you can find probably the greatest spoof ever and possibly one of the best comedies ever. This sacreligous comedy shows the farcical tale of King Arthur, from the 'cocunut' scene all the way to the chapter oddly called 'The End of the Film'. If you have a sense of humor, and want to see effects so bad that they're funny, (seriously, the blood is frickin' pink) go see Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

This is the first film adaptation of the highly popular children's book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, written by Rick Riordan. And I have to say, they did a pretty good job with it! This movie packs action, jokes, and monster special effects that only $95 million can buy. This movie did a very good adaptation of the book, which made me happy. However, there was a ton of stuff that they took out and added in. (but for all you people in my hometown of Nashville, I'm just fine with the Parthenon scene. It did not upset me one bit) The plot differs, and you wonder how the series will keep up like this, because if Sea of Monsters comes out, there's going to be a lot that they'll have to change to set things straight. (but, it is official already. 2012 for the next one. Cross your fingers that it'll be good!) Overall, for any person that wants a little action, this flick is the absolute perfect early 2010 film to see. The action is intense, however, and is very pushy and intense for a PG film...kids love that. Ha, ha.

I, Robot (2004)

One of my personal favorite movies of all time is I, Robot. This shows the story of a mysterious cop who believes that all robots are evil and tries to destroy them and show that they are evil. This entire movie is filled with action and suspense, but the best scene in my opinion is the "You are experiencing a car accident" scene. Pure sci-fi robots-go-evil gold. Don't be shocked. You saw it coming. The plot could be confusing to younger viewers, but really, younger viewers shouldn't be watching this anyway. So you should be doing good. Overall, this film is non-stop action, adventure, and edge-of-your seat thrills. Possibly one of the best robot films ever made.

Avatar (2009)

The biggest movie of the year (and possibly the decade) has hit KidViews. This science-fiction epic has action, suspense, and a love story (blach!) in just a 2hr. and 40min. package. It's long, but keeps you in the movie so that you don't get bored. In fact, most people won't be able to keep their eyes off of the screen. This movie is a must see in 3D, and the effects have will have you blown away. However, the story is a bit weak and overdone. However, if you want to go see the single movie that has beaten Titanic, head on down and go watch the big blue people in Avatar.

Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow (2008)

This is the fifth direct-to-DVD film made and produced by Marvel Animation, and is the first reviewed by KidViews. Although it looks like a dumb kiddy superhero movie excuse, it is most definitely a winner. This superhero extravaganza tells the story of the children of the Avengers, after most of the originals have been killed by a robot named Ultron. The kids then team up with the son of Hawkeye and their mentor Anthony Stark (DUH! IRON MAN!) to take down the robot and avenge their parents. It's a bit confusing, but has heart, jokes, and the classic snot being beaten out of the bad dude. I would say that this film is a winner on KidViews.

The Princess and the Frog (2009)

Not as childish of girly a movie as it looks. This movie tells the story of a frog that became a prince...well, at least that was the story that was read to a couple of kids in the beginning of the film. This film is very funny, and is a true joy to watch. The prince is turned into a frog, and asks for a kiss from a princess. (who actually isn't a princess...that's why this is funny) Then, they both become frogs. It is marvelously creepy, and one of the best Disney films I've ever seen. The romantic scenes aren't too corny, (except one near the end. It's pretty corny) the story and plot are great, and the movie is just funny. However, the villain is a voodoo wizard, or witch doctor, or something, so some people might need to make some extra precautions. Other than that, the movie is super family-friendly. Also, a neat thing is that this film was traditionally animated (drawn out by hand...it must've taken a long, long, time) which I think is neat. I would say see it, or get it when it hits DVD, so do whatever you can to go see The Princess and the Frog.

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

I love Robert Downey Jr. I love detective films. I love Sherlock Holmes. But this missed the mark just a bit. This movie stars Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes, everybody's favorite drug-addicted crazy genius detective. And, apperently, he's also super strong. I never read anything about that in the stories. It doesn't stay too close to the original stories, but stays enough for a good time. The case in the film really doesn't have a clear objective, and the film is very choppy. It's slow, but smart. That's all I can say. True Sherlock fans will like it, but other than them, I would say maybe only glance at it.

Fantastic Four (2005)

This amazing team of superheroes began in the 1960's with a comic book. Look where it is today. A full-blown legacy. Anyway, this film packs science fiction, romance, action, and deception into one two-hour package. Actually, a pretty family-friendly film. It's only PG-13 for violence. So I think it serves most purposes of movies. It is an very good blast from the past, remembering when you read your comic books, wondering about the amazing possibilities of comics. (and don't feel ashamed. I do it too) Some movie adaptations of comic books are just plain terrible, but this one hits just a few inches off the bullseye. I would say to head down to your video store and watch the Fantastic Four.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel (2009)

First of all, let me say WELCOME TO 2010!!!! Second, let me say that: I know Squeakuel is a dumb name. I know. However, things picked up a lot from the last adventure of our furry little friends. In this movie, they meet girls (finally!) the jerk Ian is a hobo living on a roof,(take that, sucker!) and this movie stars Chuck's Zachary Levi. (Mondays on NBC. Watch it) The recuuring gags, are hysterical, the plot is better, and just overall, I liked this movie more. And that is why KidViews gives Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 a

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984)

A mild dissapointment, but still worth the rent. Leonard Nimoy directs this film (I guess he'll have a major role in the movie-making process no matter what) about James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his aging crew on the Enterprise. He goes against all rules to go get Spock, who in the last movie was dumped on Genesis after he died. (oops!) Then the planet goes crazy, and then Klingons attack. It was just too much. This movie really just did what Heroes on NBC did: they make an amazingly unbelievable story...and then carry it too far. It was just too unbelievable, even for Star Trek. Still worth your time, though. It wasn't a complete dissapointment.

To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

I know that I usually rat out drama films, but this movie was outstanding. This hit film, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, has heart, adventure, suspense, and a crime scene like no other. Number one for AFI's top ten courtroom films list, this film stars Gregory Peck as AFI's number one hero, Atticus Finch. It is a fabulous story, and defines right from wrong, and gives the truth that sonetimes people can't tell the difference. So get this film today and learn why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.

Elf (2003)

This is a great family funny flick for the holidays. This hit, starring Will Ferrel as Buddy, a human raised as an elf, is a comic gem that is also a good-messaged family film. It has love, life, and a lot of very predictable (but it's still funny when it happens) humor. I would rent this any holiday season. So go down to the movie shop and rent Elf.

2012 (2009)

It's not what it's hyped up to be. This movie is, in fact, a sheer dissapointment to the disaster genre. It's just not that good. It stars John Kusack as a divorced father of two kids, and the movie is his story trying to save his family. The special effects drive this movie on...for almost 3 hours! It's too long, the plot is empty, and the movie just isn't that great. So head down to the movies with a big bucket of tomatoes and throw them at 2012.

Bolt (2008)

This Disney family film has wit, adventure, and jerks who only care about fame. All this and more happens in the Oscar-nominated movie Bolt. The movie is about a dog named Bolt (voiced by John Travolta) who is the star of his own show where he has superpowers...and he thinks it's all real. And so when he gets shipped to New York, he encounters unintelligent pigeons, a menacing alley cat, and when he gets to Ohio, a hyper-crazy hamster. So, here's the case: a dog who thinks he's got superpowers, an alley cat who had to make the pigeons slaves so she could eat, and a crazy jumpy hyper hamster, and they're all going cross-country from New York to Los Angeles. You can see how that can't end up good. Nominated for best animated feature at the 81st annual academy awards.

Minutemen (2008)

DCOM #5 to be presented by KidViews, Minutemen is a great feat of time travel and action. The few bits of comedy balance out this hit film, starring Jason Dolley. This film is about three kids who create a time-travel machine that goes haywire. It has a great plot, and the effects are spectacular for a TV movie. This is a movie that I think anyone'll want to catch if it comes on.

Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)

This hit film based on Rod Serling's hit TV series has finally hit KidViews! This movie is made of a prolouge and four main segments, so I need to review each individually and average them. PROLOUGE: The beginning of the film gave me a bit of a scare, and has the main spirit of the Twilight Zone=A- SEGMENT 1: This bit also stays true to the lighter side of the Twilight Zone, but it was terribly explained=B- SEGMENT 2: Trust me, if anybody's a fan of Steven Speilberg, it's me. But I just couldn't stand it. It insults the word horror=C SEGMENT 3: I loved this bit. I was shivering and shaking through the entire thing. It is purely awesome=A+ SEGMENT 4: I thought that the remake of the classic Twilight Zone was very well played, even though I can't compare it to the original, since I haven't seen it. All in all, this bit was amazingly played=A Through all of the bits, I would average out this movie to be a big, fat-

Unaccompanied Minors (2006)

Yes, I know I'm reviewing another Christmas movie at a time that isn't Christmas. Let it go. Anyway, this movie is a LOL-fest that is pure funny. Unaccompanied Minors is about five kids (Dyllan Christopher, Gina Mantegna, Quinn Shepard, Tyler James Williams, Brett Kelly) that are stuck in an airport, and are trying to make a girl's Christmas right, while also avoiding the authorities. It's a great Christmas movie with a good message, and it also has enough laughs to make you blow eggnog out of your nose. Adios, peoples!

Fred Claus (2007)

Yes, I know I'm reviewing a Christmas movie in September. Let it go. This Christmas flick gives a heartwarming story about Santa Claus'(Paul Giamatti) big brother Fred(Vince Vaughn), who has envied Santa forever. In the movie, Christmas is in jeopardy of being moved to the South Pole, and at the same time Fred Claus comes over, and pandemonium comes. It has its funny moments, and is worth renting, but isn't the best Christmas movie. That's all I can say. It's heartwarming, it's a good family flick, and it's mildly funny. The end.

9 (2009)

This movie based on the hit short film, 9 is an animated phenomenon that is purely amazing. This movie goes through the nine rag-doll creations that are the only living creatures other than the deadly machines that rid the world of humanity. These nine creatures come together to defeat the machines, and live safely and well...not die. The animation has some of the greatest effects I have ever seen in an animated feature. However, the story is hollow. It isn't written the best, and it just doesn't have what it could. It's not the best movie that you could get. I recommend searching KidViews for other movies that would be worth your time more than other films.
